Sraphine is a 2008 French biopic which tells the life story of little-known painter S''raphine de Senlis. The film was directed by Martin Provost who also co-wrote the screenplay with Marc Abdelnour. In 1914, Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur), a famous German art collector, relocates to Senlis, a village outside of Paris, to escape the fast paced life of the capital and to concentrate on his writing. He hires a 40-year-old cleaner called S''raphine (Yolande Moreau) to keep his rented apartment in check. As Wilhelm was responsible for the early recognition of Rousseau and Picasso and sees himself as a champion of modern primitive painters, he is shocked to discover that S''raphine (Yolande Moreau) is a devout Catholic and aspiring artist who uses all of her earnings to buy painting supplies so that she can paint masterpieces focusing on exotic flowers and plants, which she believes are inspired by her guardian angel. After recognizing S''raphine's talent, Wilhelm promises to showcase her paintings to the world.moreless
