Serial is a satirical comedy lampooning the multitude of new cultural norms in America in the 1970s. The film takes place in Marin County, California, in a pleasant upper-middle class neighborhood. Harvey (Martin Mull) and his family and friends are trying to adapt to the trends and ideologies that are sweeping the nation. This was an era stemming from the hippie culture that embraced women's liberation, free sex, religious cults, drugs, new psychological therapies, and vegetarianism among other rapidly changing fads. Harvey and Kate(Tuesday Weld) separate and experiment with new partners and hilarious new situations. Meanwhile their daughter Joanie (Jennifer McAllister) runs away and joins a wacky religious cult. Harvey and Kate come back together to rescue Joanie from this potential brainwashing. The movie provides a steady stream of one liners and outrageous humor. Several of America's best comedic actors are in the cast. The humor stems from observing the characters trying their best to fit in with the new life philosophies that everyone is talking about.moreless
