Directed by Joseph H. Lewis, Seventh Cavalry is a 1956 American Western film starring Randolph Scott, Barbara Hale, and Jay C. Flippen. The film tells the story of Captain Tom Benson (Scott) a Union soldier who was granted a furlough to go and bring his fianc' back to Fort Abraham Lincoln, where his regiment, the 7th Cavalry, is stationed. When he returns to the fort, he is baffled by the sight of its apparent desertion. Upon further inspection, eh comes across Charlotte Reynolds (Jeanette Nolan) who informs him that her husband was his replacement while he was gone and has since been killed. When a nearby fort discovers that Benson has returned, they hold him in contempt for not being present when his men were under attack. Benson must then defend himself and is sent on a mission to bury the soldiers that were killed under his command.
