Sexy Beast is a 2000 crime drama from director Jonathan Glazer that mixes a fascinating character study with humor and brutal violence. Gary 'Gal' Dove (Ray Winstone) retires from his life of crime along with his beloved wife, Deedee (Amanda Redman). They have found a blissful spot in rural Spain that they share with their friends Aitch (Cavan Kendall) and Jackie (Julianne White). Their lives are a relaxing series of barbeques until a former criminal associate Don Logan (Ben Kingsley) arrives. Logan has a plan to rob a British bank and expects Gal to participate as part of his hand-picked crew. Gal wants to leave the past behind but clearly fears the volatile Logan, who will not take no for an answer. Eventually, Gal agrees to travel with Logan back to London, and joins up with the rest of the criminal crew, including the frightening Teddy Bass (Ian McShane). Kingsley received an Academy Award nomination for his chilling portrayal of a criminal sociopath.moreless

Often enjoyable, massively uneven Brit ganglander with an almost surreal approach to the genre.
