Shades of Day is a 2006 film based on Feodor Dostoevsky's classic story, "White Nights", and is set in modern-day Los Angeles. Steven Prescott (Alexander Smith) has lost hope in becoming a screenwriter and has settled for working as a security guard. One day, he comes across a group of thugs attacking a young woman. He gets her away from them and brings her home to nurse her back to health. He soon finds that he has fallen for Linda's (Camilla Bergstrom) quirky personality. Unfortunately, Linda is still in love with her ex-boyfriend Paul (Brian Paul Stuart), a brilliant astronomy student who is working on his Ph. D. and doesn't have time for her. Linda talks Steven into spying on Paul, but the two men end up becoming friends instead. Linda, in turn, sleeps with a film producer named Gary Huy (Philippe Bergeron) when he promises to put her in his next film. What she doesn't know is that the Russian mafia is after him. Events soon spiral out of control and Linda, Paul, and Steven must decide what is the right path for each of them.moreless
