Shades of Ray is an independent romantic comedy film directed by Jaffar Mahmood that focuses young actor Ray Rehman (Zachary Levi) as he pursues his career and the love of his life while also dealing with his mixed heritage. Raised by a Caucasian mother, Janet (Kathy Baker), who supports his dreams and pushes him to date white women and a Muslim Pakistani father, Javaid (Brian George), who wishes he’d live a Muslim life with a Pakistani wife, Ray is caught in between two very different cultures. Things get a little awkward for him when his father shows up on his doorstep after his mother kicks him out, especially when Ray is still waiting on his girlfriend’s answer to his marriage proposal. When the only way to get his parents to even consider reconciling is to meet another mixed Pakistani-American family, Ray finds himself torn between the connection he has with the family’s daughter, Sana (Sarah Shahi) and the initial proposal he gave to Noelle. Quirky, comedic, and heartfelt, Shades of Ray shows how the little quirks make everything all the more exceptional.moreless
