Shadows on the Sage is a 1942 Western film directed by Lester Orlebeck. The intense action follows the story of the three courageous mesquiteers - 'Tucson' Smith (Bob Steele), 'Lullaby' Joslin (Jimmie Dodd) and 'Stony' Brooke (Tom Tyler) - who ride out to help the troubled frontier Sherrif Lippy (Harry Holman). The lawman is having difficulty stopping the criminal activity of a gang of outlaws led by ruthless gunman, Curly Joe (Bob Steele), who bring terror and disorder in the region. The hunt becomes complicated when the gang leader succeeds in capturing one of their chasers, Tucson, and notices the close resemblance to himself. Curly Joe designs a daring plan to assume the deputy's identity and avoid the capture by fooling the Sheriff and his partners. If this scheme is to work he must do a good job posing as a law-abiding man. Will the lawmen notice something fishy and prevent the criminal from escaping the pursuit of the law?
