Shakedown is a 1988 New York crime drama about corrupt cops. A drug dealer shoots a cop in Central Park, but claims self-defense because the crooked cop was actually trying to rob him. Public defender Roland Dalton (Peter Weller) takes the case and asks his friend, Richie Marks (Sam Elliot), a renegade police detective, to help him find out if there could be a corrupt ring within the force. Complicating the case, Dalton finds himself falling for his former lover, Susan Cantrell (Patricia Charbonneau), the prosecuting attorney on the case. At the same time, he has a fiance, Gail (Blanche Baker), at home. Dalton and Marks wind their way through the complicated interconnected worlds of street crime, illicit drugs and cops on the take in the big city. They do find the necessary evidence, but getting that material to the courtroom is another matter entirely, as the two buddies must survive a dangerous chase, including a showdown with a jumbo jet at JFK airport.moreless
