Shall We Dance is a classic pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in a 1937 musical comedy aboard an ocean liner that features music by the legendary George and Ira Gershwin. Dancer Pete Peters (Fred Astaire) poses as a Russian with the name Petrov to succeed in the ballet world, but he really wants to have the freedom to dance like music hall performer Linda Keene (Ginger Rogers). He becomes infatuated with the tap dancer and follows her to America on an Atlantic crossing. Soon the rumor mill begins reporting that the two have secretly wed and by the time the ship docks in New York they are surrounded by press. The two dancers scheme to actually marry, so they can publicly divorce and end the gossip, but the real secret is their hidden affection for one another. Directed by Mark Sandrich, this romantic comedy features the classic tunes "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me."moreless
