Movie Summary

Hal Ashby
Shampoo is a 1975 satirical romantic drama by director Hal Ashby, starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Goldie Hawn, Lee Grant, Jack Warden, Carrie Fisher, and Tony Bill. Beatty is George, a Beverly Hills hairdresser with a taste for the ladies and an inability to stay away from his beautiful clients. His girlfriend, Jill (Goldie Hawn), is fed up with his failure to commit and so, to keep her, he promises that they will settle down once he owns his own salon. With only fourty-eight hours to find the financial backing for the opening of his own salon, George starts to get himself into quite some convoluted situations. He turns to his wealthy lover and client, Felicia (Lee Grant) and her husband, Lester (Jack Warden). Lester happens to be having an affair with Jackie (Julie Christie), one of George’s former lovers. But George is not quite over Jackie and neither is Jackie over George. Things get complicated quickly, from George finding himself at a party with a large number of his former sexual partners to a memorable scene on the kitchen floor, in the Oscar-winning drama, Shampoo, to which the beginning of Goldie Hawn’s success may be attributed to.moreless
  • Sheer perfection!

Ashby has its main masterpiece, with a formidable script by Robert Towne, and, Warren Beatty at his top!

Goldie Hawn, Carrie Fisher, Lee Grant, of course the extraordinary Jack Warden are just all incredibly good, however, here who's the man is Beatty, whose performance to my advice defined the American metrosexual male, 3 decades ahead of time and stays with you forever! And from someone who's grown up in Beverly Hills, let me tell you, there's no movie like Shampoo that nails it better! Yes, times have changed and so did hair do's, fashion and mores, but, essentially this is a classic dark comedy of manners that defines LA at its very best, with all its flaws and glitz and glamour! Julie Christie, finally, is a winner. One of her best performances (and that's saying something i guess, right?) but also she looks so gorgeous in this to almost feels otherworldly! She's a stunning presence (forget the picture on the poster, i don't know why they used that, she is completely different in the movie!), a glacier in flames that will helm this movie to its most glorious eternal triumph! Excellent!moreless
