Shattered is a twisty 1991 thriller based on the novel "The Plastic Nightmare" by Richard Neely. After a New Year's Eve car accident leaves Dan Merrick (Tom Berenger) in a coma, he wakes up to discover that he was a powerful architect with a beautiful wife (Gretta Scacchi), a large San Francisco home and no memory of his past. Curiously, his wife was in the same accident, but survived it without a scratch. She seems supportive, though, and eager to resume their life together. After returning to work with his business partner Jeb Scott (Corbin Bernsen), he finds out he has been having an affair with his partner's wife Jenny (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer). To add further confusion, he receives a $7,000 bill from a from a man named Gus Klein (Bob Hoskins) for "pet services." Who is this man and what is going on? Is Merrick's wife all she appears to be? Shattered was the first American film directed by German filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen.
