Sheriff of Sundown is a 1944 western directed by Lesley Selander. The film tells the story of rancher Tex Jordan (Allan Lane) who comes to Sundown and sells his cattle to Jack Hatfield (Roy Barcroft). While he does ok in the deal, Tex finds out that Hatfield is cheating smaller cattle ranchers. When Hatfield kills his friend, rancher Andy Craig (Jack Kirk) because he refuses to sell his cattle at a low price, Tex has had enough. He is appointed Special Agent by Governor Brainerd (Herbert Rawlinson) and takes on the cause of the small ranchers. He also becomes a surrogate father to Andy's daughter, Little Jo (Twinkle Watts). Working together with Lois Carpenter (Linda Stirling), the Sheriff's daughter, Tex forms a Cattleman's Cooperative Exchange to protect small ranchers from the predatory tactics of Jack Hatfield. Enraged by Tex's interference, Hatfield will stop at nothing to get rid of the Cooperative. As Tex heads into his final showdown with Hatfield and his gang, he is forced to come to grips with a surprising betrayal. Fans of early Westerns will be charmed by this classic tale of good and evil.moreless
