Sherlock Holmes And The Secret Weapon (In Color) is a 1942 film that takes the famous Victorian sleuth (Basil Rathbone) and transplants him to World War II London. The story involves a Swiss scientist named Dr. Tobel (William Post Jr.), who is developing a specialized bomb sight for the Allies that the Nazis are eager to get their hands on. They plan to kidnap Tobel with the help of an elderly bookseller who Tobel trusts. What the Nazis do not know is that the bookseller is in fact Holmes in disguise who spirits the scientist out of Switzerland and to his London flat. While being watched over by Dr Watson (Nigel Bruce), Tobel sneaks out of the apartment to see his girlfriend and hatch an elaborate plan to keep his invention from falling into the Nazi's hands. He divides his bomb sight plans into four parts and gives each part to a different scientist. He then devises a code to indicate where each part is in case he is captured. When he is, in fact, captured by Holmes's nemesis Moriarty, who plans to sell the plans to the Germans, it is a race against the clock for Holmes to reassemble the plans. Sherlock Holmes And The Secret Weapon (In Color) was the fourth in this film series starring Rathbone and was based on the Arthur Conan Doyle story, The Dancing Men.moreless
