Shinbone Alley is an animated motion picture about Archy (Eddie Bracken), a man who has been reincarnated as a cockroach after committing suicide. He soon finds that he can express himself via his writing as he still contains the cognitive ability to do so. However, he finds it quite difficult to accomplish this as a cockroach, as he has to manually depress the keys of a typewriter using his own bodyweight. He fashions a plethora of deep and inspiring poetry with the intention of winning the heart of a house cat named Mehitabel (Caron Channing). Archy also befriends a male cat, Big Bill (Alan Reed), who had a previous relationship with Mehitabel. Archy cares greatly for her and spends much of the film offering her his perceptions of the world, as well as giving her advice. The film is based on a series of comic shorts by Don Marquis and contains a number of musical pieces written by George Kleinsinger.
