Shining Through is Nazi era thriller about a secretary who volunteers to work as a spy for her boss. Linda Voss (Melanie Griffith) is a German Jewish woman from New York whose fluency in German lands her a position as secretary and translator for attorney Ed Leland (Michael Douglas). However, as her job progresses and she realizes that instructions are always written in code, Voss suspects her boss is actually a spy. Voss and Leland become lovers, and her suspicions are confirmed when he leaves to fight in the war, revealing he is a colonel in the OSS. Upon his return, Voss ascertains that the Allies are in desperate need of a secret agent in Berlin, and the young woman convinces Leland to send her over to help with the war effort. Now on the front lines and steeped in enemy territory, only time will tell if Voss can help or hurt the efforts, and whether she will survive in the process. David Seltzer directs this gripping drama about two peoples relationship just as much as it is about a nation embroiled in World War II.moreless
