Short Cut to Hell follows professional hitman Kyle Niles (Robert Ivers) who is hired to kill two people. But Kyle's been double crossed by his client, the gangster Bahrwell (Jacques Aubuchon). Bahrwell paid for the killings with stolen money and the police are tracing it back to Kyle. Kyle hits the road, abducting singer Glory Hamilton (Georgann Johnson) who has become the target of Bahrwell and his team of thugs. Glory is tortured by Bahrwell and decides to help Kyle in his bid for revenge while her boyfriend tries to find her before she is killed. The film is a remake of the 1942 film "This Gun For Hire," which starred Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd. Both films are based on Graham Greene's novel "A Gun for Sale," and while Short Cut to Hell reuses some of the shots from the original film, it is not a shot-for-shot remake. Short Cut to Hell was produced by Paramount Studios in 1957. It is the only film ever directed by James Cagney.moreless
