Shortcut to Happiness is a 2004 adaptation of Stephen Vincent Benet's Faustian short story "The Devil and Daniel Webster." Jabez Stone (Alec Baldwin) is a struggling New York writer churning out unpopular novels in a crummy apartment with nothing but his friends to keep him going. When one of his friends, Julius Jenson (Dan Aykroyd), sells his new manuscript for an enormous sum, Stone is ready to do whatever it takes to find literary success. He will even sell his soul to the Devil (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Sure enough, the Devil is always in the market. After signing on the dotted line, Stone is transformed overnight into the writer of his dreams. But, overwhelmed with money, celebrity and women, he soon discovers that the important things in life are the things he had all along. Now with both his life and afterlife at stake, Stone must find a way to convince the Devil to let him out of his contract.
