Shutter Island is the 2010 Martin Scorsese-directed spine-chilling thriller that critics say "sizzles with so much suspense that it's hot to the touch." When U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) arrives at the asylum for the criminally insane on Shutter Island, what starts as a routine investigation quickly takes a sinister turn. As the investigation unfolds and Teddy uncovers more shocking and terrifying truths about the island, he learns there are some places that never let you go. **Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE.

Even when it's clear Scorsese has decided to employ fakery and allow it to be obvious, it's done with elegance and beauty.

  • Its got my vote as the worst movie of the modern cinematic era.

    4.0
It starts off solidly with good acting from all involved and a good sense of the period in history it was set in.

After a while the producer/writers et al introduce the most mind numbing "twist" I have ever encountered in modern cinema. The film becomes largely unwatchable after that. There isn't much to add to that sentiment in my opinion other than to say avoid it. I think it was made to be a nod to old time cinema noir but it fails because the premise is not believable unlike say, Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock. Its a bad sign when movies like this are made as it makes people reluctant to spend more money on more potentially awful films.moreless

A very scary and very sad movie. I'm rarely surprised by a film as I find most of them very predictable, but this was one of the exceptions. If you haven't watched it I suggest you do so, you won't be disappointed.
