Side Out is a 1990 romantic comedy sports movie by director Peter Israelson, starring C. Thomas Howell, Peter Horton, and Courtney Thorne-Smith. In the movie, Milwaukee college law student Monroe Clark (C. Thomas Howell) heads to Los Angeles, California for a less than glamorous summer job in the glamorous city: evicting his wealthy uncle’s tenants. He knows that people tend to ‘shoot the messenger’ and thus does not expect to make any friends. Which is why he is quite surprised to find himself becoming friends with deadbeat ex-professional volleyball player Zack Barnes. When the two decide to team up and prepare for the biggest volleyball tournament of the year, even though Monroe is a complete volleyball rookie, it turns out that his summer may not be as boring as expected. Side Out is a funny film for volleyball afficianados, as well as anyone who just wants to enjoy a light hearted film with a beautiful setting.
