Movie Summary

Director:
Steven C Miller
Released:
2012
Rating:
R
It's the night before Christmas, and not a creature is stirring - except for a psycho axe-murderer disguised as Santa. When a small-town sheriff (Malcolm McDowell of ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN, TV's FRANKLIN AND BASH) and his deputy (Jaime King of SIN CITY) investigate a horrific mass homicide at a local motel on Christmas Eve, they discover there is a killer Santa Claus on the loose. While the killer is still in the area, the sheriffs run into one problem - nearly every person in town is dressed for the annual Santa costume contest. With the town's body count rising, the race is on to put an end to jolly old St. Nick's murderous rampage. The film is a loose remake of the controversial cult-classic SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT.

Metacritic Score

  • 60

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis

This brisk reimagining of the 1984 slasher "Silent Night, Deadly Night" delivers the seasonal goods with admirable efficiency and not a little wit.

  • 60

    Los Angeles Times Gary Goldstein

The movie's intended audience will likely be satisfied by its parade of gory mayhem, cheap thrills and groan-worthy dark humor. Everyone else: You're on your own.

  • 50

    The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

Remakes of '80s-era cult-favorite horror flicks seem to be all the rage these days. But they have to be better than this formulaic effort to replace the already not-so-great origin...
