Silent Tongue is the 1994 Western directed by Sam Shepard, with follows a grief-stricken man who has gone insane after losing his wife. Talbot Roe (River Phoenix) is a young man whose wife has died, and he is struggling to stay sane. His father Prescott Roe (Richard Harris) wants to find him a new wife to ease his pain, and goes back to Earmon McCree (Alan Bates), the father of his previous wife who sold her to Prescott. When he asks to have his last daughter for his son to marry, McCree refuses, and Prescott uses some desperate measures. He kidnaps the sister of Talbot's wife, and tries to get her to help his cause. Things are further complicated by Talbot and his obsession with his wife's corpse. If he lets her go, she could try to take it from him, and things are complicated even further when he is visited by the ghost of his dead wife.
