1992

PG-13
Singles is a romantic comedy that follows the lives of a group of loosely interconnected friends living in an apartment complex in Seattle. Janet Livermore (Bridget Fonda) is a waitress who is in love with a rock musician, Cliff Poncier (Matt Dillon) who won't fully commit to her and whom she constantly fails to please. Her neighbor, Steve Dunne (Campbell Scott) is trying to make a new romance work with a woman he recently met named Linda Powell (Kyra Sedgwick) despite the fact that she may soon be leaving town. Meanwhile, another neighbor, Debbie Hunt (Sheila Kelley) repeatedly goes on awful dates in an ongoing and slightly pathetic effort to find Mr. Right. As the film progresses, the respective couples struggle with whether the difficulties of making a commitment are worth the reward of having one. Set against the backdrop of the grunge musical scene that electrified Seattle during the 1990s and featuring much of the period's music, Singles is a film that explores what it means to be in love when you are in your twenties.moreless
