Sioux City is about Jesse "Rainfeather" Goldman (Lou Diamond Phillips), a Lakota Sioux Indian orphan, who tries to get in touch with his cultural roots, only to get pulled into a mystery involving someone close to him. Jesse was adopted by a Jewish family in Beverly Hills, California and knew nothing about his family or heritage. unexpectedly he receives an amulet from his tribe's reservation in Sioux City. After learning the amulet is from his mother (Tantoo Cardinal), he travels to the reservation in hopes of meeting her. However, upon arrival he finds out someone close to him has been killed, the body found in the burnt remains of her home. Upon further investigation, another twist awaits Jesse in regards to the body. Jesse then tries to investigate the death himself, only to be stopped by the local police captain, and then later nearly beaten to death. His grandfather, a shaman named Clifford Rainfeather (Apesanahkwat), nurses him back to health and helps him contact the spirit of the deceased, allowing him to find out what really happened to the victim.moreless
