Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a science fiction adventure film directed by Kerry Conran that is set in an alternative reality of the late 1930s as newspaper Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) and "Sky Captain" Joe Sullivan (Jude Law) search for the nefarious Dr. Totenkopf (the late Laurence Olivier). While Polly is searching for leads on the mysterious disappearances of Dr. Jorge Vargas (Julian Curry) and a number of other renowned scientists, she becomes a witness to an attack on New York City by indestructible robots and discovers an assassin (Bai Ling) sent by Dr. Totenkopf to find scientists needed for his plans. With the help of mechanic Dex (Giovanni Ribisi) and Commander Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie), the two discover the truth of Totenkopf and his plans. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a breathtaking film that was one of the first to be shot entirely on a digital backlot.
