Sleeping Dogs Lie, also known as Stay, is a dark 2006 romantic comedy about how much information is too much between lovers. John (Bryce Johnson) wants to share everything with his new fianc'', sweet-natured schoolteacher Amy (Melinda Page Hamilton). He asks her to reveal her deepest, darkest secret. Amy, on the other hand, wonders if she should let him know about a shocking sexual adventure during her college years. She seeks advice from her mom (Bonita Friedericy) and co-worker, Ed (Colby French), while keeping the details vague. They both convince her that secrets can destroy a good relationship. Unfortunately, when Amy does relent and shares with John, he cannot stomach her confession. The disclosure has unexpected reverberations throughout her life and family. Writer and director Bobcat Goldthwait ("World's Greatest Dad") may be better known for his career as a stand-up comedian, but he tackles a provocative subject matter with sensitivity and humor. The film is best suited to mature audiences.

Rather than the escalating gross-out spectacular it could have been, Sleeping Dogs Lie is an unexpectedly thoughtful look at what it takes to make relationships work.
