Small Soldiers is a 1998 science fiction film starring Kirsten Dunst, Gregory Smith, and the voices of Tommy Lee Jones, Frank Langella, and Ernest Borgnine in an inventive action film about a new line of robotic action figures designed to 'play back' with their owners. However, when the military-themed toys begin learning and functioning autonomously, the humans who own them risk becoming victims of the small but deadly play things. The toys are produced in two groups the Gorgonites, a race of peaceful creatures trying to get back to their homeland, and the Commando Elite, a group of soldiers interested in exterminating the Gorgonites. When the toys wind up in the hands of the young children of a local toy store owner, the humans become players in the toy war and targets of the evil soldier action figures. This inventive film features a stellar cast, including Jay Mohr, Phil Hartman, David Cross, Denis Leary, and the voice talent of Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer. Small Soldiers is an action-packed film about a group of dangerous toys who aren't playing around.
