Small Time is a movie that could be a cautionary tale on what happens if you chose the wrong friends. Ben (Glen Plummer) is a small fish in a big pond that dreams of being one of those big fish. His boss gives him drugs and a meetup location in the desert. Ben brings along his friends, and soon boredom sets in and they start using the drugs they're delivering. The desert is just as much a character in this film as the actors, reinforcing the sense of isolation and the endless waste. Prostitutes are called to alleviate the boredom, but the party has to end sometime, especially with the ever dwindling stash of drugs. Will Ben's dreams vanish like a mirage, or is there some way to survive even if the delivery suddenly isn't the amount the distributor is expecting? The desert night is long and hot and only time will tell.
