Smalltown Boy is a 2010 documentary filmed and directed by Moby Longinotto. This film is part of LOGO's Real Momentum documentary series, which depicts everyday people who are heroes in the LGBT community. This movie is about an English boy, who lived in foster care from the age of six. At age 14, he announced that he was gay and was promptly kicked out of the foster care system. He is living in a rural English village, and he is trying to gain acceptance for whom he is and what he stands for. During his school years, he was constantly bullied, insulted and even beat up for his sexual preferences. This young man discusses going through manic depression during this time and his continuing struggles for acceptance and his own personal identity in the midst of a rural English setting that is homophobic and conservative. During the film, he walks the streets of his town in drag and enters a beauty contest to try to sway people's opinions.moreless
