Smithereens is a 1982 drama about an eclectic girl from New Jersey who chases a handful of men she hopes will give her a shot at fame and status in the world of entertainment. The woman, Wren (Susan Berman), is an independent artist/musician that has longed to be known among the bigwigs of the New York punk rock scene. In order to reach this level of fame, she meets with various men who all end up being short-lived relationships. Wren first meets a runaway from Montana named Paul (Brad Rijn), who has deep feelings for her, but unfortunately not the connections she is looking for. She soon drops Paul for a musician named Eric (Richard Hell), who has a record deal and agrees to move to California with Wren under one condition -- she helps him scam people for money by dressing as a prostitute. That idea never works out and after a few more half-hearted relationships, Wren soon finds herself getting kicked out of her own apartment. With nowhere to go, Wren soon reflects and finds herself crumbling alone in a world where she finally has to depend on no one but herself to succeed.moreless
