Snake Eyes is a 1998 thriller about an Atlantic City police detective who uncovers a massive conspiracy surrounding a boxing match. Crooked cop Rick Santoro (Nicolas Cage) is happily attending a heavyweight title fight with his best friend, Kevin Dunne (Gary Sinise), a commander in the Navy who is the personal escort of Defense Secretary Charles Kirkland (Joel Fabiani). As the fight begins, Dunne is distracted by a gorgeous woman and Julia Costello (Carla Gugino) slips into his seat. She tries to speak with Kirkland, but he is assassinated by a sniper before she can say anything. All hell breaks loose afterwards and Costello disappears. Santoro begins examining the security footage of the fight, trying to figure out where the chief suspect Costello went. During his investigation, he learns that one of the fighters intentionally lost the bout to settle a gambling debt. His curiousity aroused, Santoro continues to dig deeper and eventually begins to suspect that his best friend is more involved than he admits.

It's the worst kind of bad film: the kind that gets you all worked up and then lets you down, instead of just being lousy from the first shot.
