Snow Dogs is a 2002 American holiday comedy film by director Brian Levan, based loosely on the book 'Winterdance: The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod' by author Gary Paulsen. When Miami dentist Theodore 'Ted' Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr.) learns that he has inherited a pack of seven Siberian Huskies and a border Collie from his estranged birth mother, Lucy Watkins, he heads out to the fictional village of Tolketna, Alaska to discover his roots. But figuring out why Lucy put him up for adoption is not the only challenge on Ted's plate'the Arctic Challenge Sled Dog Race is only two weeks away and he, an untrained never-raced-before beginner, is expected to compete! It's a race against the clock as Ted tries to uncover his past and get closer to his Alaskan roots through dog sledding. And when he meets Barb (Joanna Bacalso), matters of the heart come into play as well. Snow Dogs is a fun family-friendly film with an award-winning soundtrack.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 40

    Variety Joe Leydon

Small children will be amused by the frenetic antics of Cuba Gooding Jr. Grownups, however, will be far less enchanted.

  • 30

    Los Angeles Times Gene Seymour

Every generation is entitled to its dopey, sticky junk and, deep into the winter blahs, they don't get stickier or dopier than Snow Dogs.

  • 10

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Snow Dogs is, even by the standards of a tradition that includes "Son of Flubber" and "The Shaggy D.A.," remarkably inept.
