Soggy Bottom, U.S.A. is a 1981 comedy film directed by Theodore J. Flicker and released by Gaylord Productions. Sometimes called by its alternate title, "Swamp Rats," Soggy Bottom, U.S.A. tells the story of hopeful inventor Jacob Gorch (Don Johnson) and his quest to invent a flashy airboat called the Bayou Hydrofoil. After numerous frustrating, failed attempts, Jacob is about to give up hope. However, he soon learns that he must finish the project (and sell it for a handsome amount of money) if he wants to marry his sweetheart, the winsome singer Charlene (P.J. Soles). As the hapless Jacob builds and rebuilds his boat, the town is nearly collapsing around him: the local teetotalers are planning to sabotage a nearby moonshine still, and the rest of the townsfolk are scrambling to prepare for the arrival of Miss Dusty (Ann Wedgeworth), a glamorous country singer. Soggy Bottom, U.S.A. is loaded with physical comedy, toilet humor and unapologetic campiness and remains a cult favorite.moreless
