Some Kind of Hero is a 1982 film starring Richard Pryor as Corporal Eddie Keller, a Vietnam veteran returning home and adjusting to civilian life. This proves difficult for Keller who was held as a prisoner of war for five years. His captors forced him to sign a statement denouncing the United States so that his friend, Vinnie (Ray Sharkey), would receive proper medical treatment. Denied back pay by the United States government for his "betrayal," Keller then discovers the rest of his life is not much better. His wife, Lisa (Lynne Moody), has left him, his business is failing, and his mother, Jesse (Olivia Cole), is in a nursing home after a stroke. Surprisingly, things start to turn around when he meets prostitute Toni (Margot Kidder). Together, they try to get Eddie back on his feet. Some Kind of Hero is a funny and touching look at one man's struggle to reintegrate into American life after his experiences in the Vietnam War.moreless
