Some Kind of Wonderful is a 1987 romantic drama about a high school misfit who is in love with the most popular girl in school, while also being loved by his tomboy best friend. Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz) is living through a fairly mundane high school existence. He spends most of his time hanging out with his best friend, Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson). His life changes one day, though, when he meets the gorgeous Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson) and decides to ask her out. More to hurt the feelings of her ex-boyfriend, than because she has feelings for Keith, Amanda agrees. This arouses the anger of her boyfriend, Hardy (Craig Sheffer) and sparks jealousy in Watts. Despite not really being interested in Keith at first, Amanda begins to enjoy her time with him, further frustrating Hardy and Watts. As they continue dating, Watts struggles to remain friends with Keith, while he has difficulty making the choice between spending time with Watts or Amanda.
