Somewhere in the City was directed by Ramin Niami and written by Patrick Dillon. It was produced by Sideshow Productions and released in September of 1998. The film tells the story of some New Yorkers residing in the Lower East Side. It follows a quiet therapist named Betty (Sandra Bernhard), a Chinese immigrant named Lu Lu (Ling Bai), the wife of the apartment building manager and an Italian immigrant. The actors do a fantastic job at portraying their archetypal roles. It portrays their everyday life and their sometimes sarcastic interactions with each other. Ramin Niami does a great job of presenting us with a complex set of characters full of common modern flaws, but full of redeeming qualities. The intricate characters definitely make this film worth watching. The film is brimming with humor and an overall positive view of life in the Big Apple. It is a great movie to watch for both New Yorkers and Non-New Yorkers alike.
