Movie Summary

Director:
Garth Jennings
Released:
2007
Rating:
PG-13
Son of Rambow is a comedy film made by one of today's most talented music video directors: Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). This British film, set during the 1980's, centers around a sheltered little boy named Will (Bill Milner) whose family is part of an austere religious sect. One day, at school, Will coincidentally meets a bully named Lee (Will Poulter) in the hallway. They accidentally break a fish bowl together. Lee offers to take the blame, and presumably get punished by the principal, if Will will participate in his movie. Lee explains he is making a home made film based off of Rambo: First Blood, and he needs a stunt man. Will consents, and despite their great differences in personality, they become best friends. Unfortunately, Will has to keep the film and his friend a secret, as his mother and the sect they are a part of do not condone television or film. A great film about growing up and coming out of your shell. Be sure to watch!moreless

A likable, lightly sticky valentine to childhood, the 1980s and the dawning of movie love, Son of Rambow was written and directed by Garth Jennings and produced by Nick Goldsmith, ...

A sweetly raucous adventure. Widely quoted comparisons to "Billy Elliot" and Tim Burton overstate the case for what is really a modestly eccentric entertainment.

The super-hip style is groovy but doesn't mask the fact that Son of Rambow doesn't really go anywhere special or say anything much. For a film about falling in love with the movies...
