Soul Man is a 1986 comedy film starring C. Thomas Howell, Rae Dawn Chong, James Earl Jones, Leslie Nielsen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The film revolves around Mark Watson (C. Thomas Howell). Mark is the son of wealthy family and plans to attend Harvard Law School. His plans change when his father (James Sikking) follows the advice of a therapist and chooses to spend Mark's college funds on himself. Left with no other options, Mark searches for scholarships, but the only one he is qualifies for is only available for African Americans. Deciding to cheat the system, Watson finds a way to make the school believe that he is black. The ruse works and he begins attending Harvard Law School just as he had dreamed. However, his situation becomes much more complicated when he learns how his trickery is affecting the girl falls in love with, Sarah Walker (Rae Dawn Chong), who is forced to work to support herself and her child while attending school.moreless
