Soul Plane is a 2004 comedy movie by director Jessy Terrero, starring Tom Arnold, Kevin Hart, Method Man, Snoop Dogg, Arielle Kebbel, Mo’Nique, and Sofia Vergara. After an extremely humiliating and uncomfortable incident on a plane, involving a toilet and some turbulence, Nashawn Wade (Kevin Hart) sues the airline and is awarded a ridiculously large settlement. Instead of just blowing through the money, Nashawn decides to invest it in the full service airline of his dreams, complete with a hot onboard dance club, funky music, sexy stewardesses, and a bathroom attendant to insure that no one gets into the unfortunate situation that he did. While dealing with securing all the fun extras, however, some essentials slip through the cracks. Nashawn finds himself in the air on the blinged-out purple Soul Plane, without a capable pilot. Soul Plane was nominated for a 2004 BET Comedy Award for Mo’Nique’s performance as the loud Jamiqua.

Metacritic Score

  • 50

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Not everyone will be thrilled by the movie, which is one long dirty (and occasionally very funny) joke.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times

Flashy production design can't save Soul Plane from crashing and burning in a debris field strewn with stereotypes and raunch.

  • 40

    Variety

Begins as a high-spirited romp before running out of gas and ideas about halfway up the tarmac.
