Soul Survivors is the 2001 horror mystery from writer-director Stephen Carpenter (The Dorm That Dripped Blood, The Power, The Kindred). A very young girl, Cassie, (Melissa Sagemiller, The Guardian, Mr. Woodcock) says goodbye to her loved ones and ventures off to become a college freshman. One night, Cassie and her friends decide to go to a wild party with plenty of drinking and dancing and Cassie is riding with her boyfriend who she likes but has never told she loves him. As Cassie is driving, a car appears stopped in the middle of the road and she is unable to avoid an accident. As a result, there is a bloody loss of lives along with her boyfriend. Cassie becomes very emotionally upset and has nightmares which cause her to have hallucinations about her boyfriend coming back to life and encounters men trying to murder her and she is struggling to find out who her real friends are, who wants her dead and will she survive this entire horror ordeal.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 20

The New York Times Lawrence Van Gelder

There is an explanation for everything, but it is a long time coming and not worth the wait.

  • 20

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

The actors are game, but their roles lack color and depth, and it's a real struggle to survive Soul Survivors to the finish.

  • 10

    Variety Robert Koehler

A horror movie without horror, a spook pic without spookiness and a metaphysical drama without the slightest spiritual tug, Soul Survivors virtually dwindles away on the screen.
