South Central is a movie about a former gang member's effort to keep his young son out of the gang lifestyle and away from harm. Bobby (Glenn Plummer) is a teenager completely immersed in the life of the Deuce gang in Los Angeles. Out on parole, his girlfriend Carole (LaRita Shelby) has just given birth their baby boy Jimmie (Christian Coleman). Bobby and Carole desire to get out of the gang life, wanting to raise their son away from the violence and crime, but Bobby ends up shooting a rival gang member, and serves 10 years in prison. While he is incarcerated, he becomes a changed man, wholeheartedly wanting nothing to do with his former life, but as it turns out, Jimmie, now a young teenager, is caught up in it himself, stealing car stereos for gang leader and old running mate of Bobby, Ray Ray (Byron Minns). In a struggle to protect his family and young son from making the same mistakes as he did, Bobby again gets involved with Ray Ray, hoping to finally find a life away from gangs forever. Stephen Milburn Anderson directs this riveting story that, like the novel by Donald Bakeer, is all too reminiscent of gang life in Los Angeles.moreless
