Space Battleship Yamato: The Movie is an animated space adventure film directed by Leiji Matsumoto that focuses on the Japanese battleship, the Yamato, as its ragtag crew of Earth survivors rushes to build a larger, more powerful ship from the ruins of the Yamato. In the year 2199, the alien Gamilas declared war on planet Earth by raining deadly Planet Bombs, which turns a lush surface into an atomic wasteland. Though the surviving faction of humanity huddles in underground cities, it is only a matter of a few years before the radiation destroys every bit of life. Their only hope lies in the hands of Queen Starsha of the planet Iscandar, who has a planet-cleansing device, the Cosmo-Cleaner D, which would reverse the damage from the weapons of the Gamilas. The only hitch? Iscandar is over 148,000 light years away. Can Space Battleship Yamato make it to Iscandar and back to Earth before the Gamilas finish their goal of wiping Earth clean in order to take it over? Space Battleship Yamato, or Star Blazers as it is known in English, is considered one of the most influential and classic Japanese animes ever.moreless
