SpaceCamp is a 1986 action adventure film based on the fictitious exploits of a group of young teens, at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Directed by Harry Weiner, the movie is based on a book by Patrick Bailey and Larry B. Williams. A group of teens, Tish (Kelly Preston), Kevin (Tate Donovan), Kathryn (Lea Thompson), Max (Joaquim Phoenix), and Rudy (Larry B. Scott) arrive at Space Camp for training as future astronauts. Once there, the students find themselves accidentally launched into space along with camp instructor, Andie Bergstrom (Kate Capshaw). Andie and the teens go through a number of frightening scenarios in order to find their way back to earth. With no radio, the shuttle is unable to communicate with NASA for guidance. Faced with a dwindling oxygen supply and time quickly running out, the team must put aside petty differences in order to find their way back home.
