Species: The Awakening is the seventh installment in a series spawned by the 1995 sci-fi film Species, which starred Ben Kingsley and Natasha Henstridge. This 2007 straight-to-dvd addition centers around a young, smart and beautiful college professor who becomes increasingly tormented by her alien heritage. Miranda Hollander (Helena Mattsson) is unaware she is part alien. She eerily awakes in a pool of severed corpses one evening, and, unable to explain how and why such atrocious events took place, she turns to her uncle Tom (Ben Cross) for explanations. Miranda is surprised when she learns that she is part alien and is most likely responsible for the massacre she witnessed. She and Tom head to Mexico where they hope to meet her creator and reverse her alien-like tendencies. But it appears as though Miranda is an unstoppable force who leaves behind a trail of dead bodies. Species: The Awakening was written by Ben Ripley and directed by Nick Lyon.
