Movie Summary

Director:
Jan de Bont
Released:
1997
Rating:
PG-13

Speed 2: Cruise Control begins with the introduction of a romantic couple: Alex Shaw (Jason Patric) and Annie (Sandra Bullock). Annie is under the impression that Alex is a simple beach cop. When Annie runs into Alex performing his function as a SWAT officer however, Alex offers to take her on a vacation to the Caribbean to make up for his lie. While on a cruise ship, a maniacal deranged passenger/computer genius, John Geiger (Willem Dafoe) begins sabotaging the ship for his own nefarious ends. Alex and Annie must thwart Geiger to save themselves and the other passengers. As the ship rushes towards its destination the viewer is left wondering, have they reached terminal velocity? Speed 2: Cruise Control is directed by Jan de Bont and based upon a writer's interpretation of a recurring nightmare he suffered from, all set to a soundtrack based heavily in Reggae to fit the Caribbean setting.
