Rating:
PG
Spice World is a musical/comedy film from 1997 that was made at the height of the Spice Girls' popularity. The film features Posh Spice, Scary Spice, Baby Spice, Sporty Spice and fan favorite Ginger Spice. The film deals with the Spice Girls as they try to make it to the most important gig of their lives. Meatloaf makes a very surprise appearance as the bus driver trying to get the Spice Girls to their destination. The movie is considered to be very funny among Spice Girls fans especially with a breakout performance from Scary Spice. (Melanie Brown) Spice World didn't make as much money as Box Office analysts predicted, earning only 3 million more dollars than the budget. But some have said that stiff competition opening weekend may have been partly to blame. The film ends emotionally with all of the Spice Girls singing "Spice Up Your Life" while regaling on the adventures that they had been through during the course of the movie.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 70

The New York Times Elvis Mitchell

Disarmingly, the film thus acknowledges the Spice Girls' flash-in-the-pan status and lets them kid around about their frankly synthetic career.

  • 70

    Variety Derek Elley

The movie essentially mirrors the non-diva, down-to-earth personalities on which their act is based, and which include a sizable amount of self-parody.

  • 12

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

They're so detached they can't even successfully lip-synch their own songs.
