Spreading Ground is a 2000 crime horror film directed by Derek Vanlint. In Burman City, an elusive serial killer is preying on little girls. Two police detectives, Ed DeLongpre (Dennis Hopper) and Michael McGivern (Frederic Forest) are given the task of tracking and arresting this madman. Everyone is on high alert in the city and Mayor Hackett (Elizabeth Shepherd) is worried if the killer is not caught quickly it will affect her re-election. Hackett contacts Captain Nieman (Chuck Shumata) and together they give the detectives a 48-hour deadline for catching the maniac. Unwilling to trust only the police, Hackett contacts a mob hitman, Son of McCamus (Johnny Gault), and gives him the same task with the same deadline. DeLongpre and McGivern are strained under all the pressure; and the unknown twist of having the mob involved may complicate the case. With all sides of the law chasing the same killer, can he be caught?
