Spring Forward is a character driven drama that follows Paul (Liev Schreiber) as he is released from prison and transitions into life in a small Connecticut town. On the first day at his new job with the parks and maintenance department, Paul loses his temper and quits; but his new partner, veteran groundskeeper Murphy (Ned Beatty) eventually convinces him to stay. As the seasons change, Paul and Murphy's relationship strengthens and develops into a father-son relationship that sits in stark contrast to Murphy's difficult relationship with his biological son. Paul and Murphy share their lives, hopes, regrets, and ambitions while Paul tries to create a new life and Murphy struggles to come to terms with his past. Spring Forward won a third place mention for the Discovery Award honoring Best First Film at the 1999 Toronto film festival and the Producer's Award at the 2001 Independent Spirit Awards. It is directed by playwright and character actor Tom Gilroy; this is his first time directing a feature film.moreless
