Springtime in the Rockies is a classic black and white 1937 western starring Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, and Polly Rowles. The story follows ranch owner Sandra (Rowles) who graduates from veterinary (animal husbandry) school and brings a herd of sheep into country inhabited by rough cattle men. She and her sheep are disliked by the local cattle ranchers but the ranch foreman (Gene Autry) must deal with it and the problems that come with it. He tries to direct her to a rundown shack, hoping she and her girlfriends will take their sheep and go back east. Learning of the foreman's trick, a crook named Briggs gets her to sell out her ranch cheap, and then frames Foreman Autry for murder to get him out of the way of his plan to oust the lady. The original copyright version was an hour long but it was remastered in 2003. The finished result ended up being about 54 minutes long. Republic Pictures produced the original film in beautiful Garner Valley, California. In addition to Autry, Burnette, and Rowles, Springtime in the Rockies also stars Ula Love, Ruth Bacon, Jane Hunt, George Chesebro, Al Bridge, Tom London, and others.moreless
