Spysmasher Returns takes the classic 1942 movie and recuts it for TV in 1966. The result is the rediscovery of the clever work of director William Witney based on the Fawcett Comics series. Remarkable detective Spy Smasher (Kane Richmond) sets out to stop a Nazi rival, The Mask (Hans Schumm). The Mask wants to undermine America, and he's going to do it by eliminating the defense systems of the U.S. just before World War II begins. Spy Smasher works urgently and secretly, posing as a normal guy, Alan Armstrong. He's joined by his twin brother Jack (also Richmond) and Jack's fianc''e Eve Corby (Marguerite Chapman). However, Eve turns out to be less of a help when The Mask endangers her life, as he uses her as a bargaining chip to track down the Spy Smasher. Republic's original series was twelve episodes long, and this film captures it in an hour and a half of spectacular, classic footage.
