St. Patrick: The Irish Legend is a made-for-television film which chronicles the life of the late, devout Saint Patrick of Ireland who eventually strove to convert his entire country to Christianity. The film was written by Martin Duffy and directed by documentarian Robert Hughes (ABBA: The Movie, Race the Sun) in the year 2000. As a young English boy, Patrick (Luke Griffin) is taken hostage by barbaric Irishmen and taken back to Ireland as a slave. Under extreme oppression, he is forced to abandon his previous ties to Christianity in exchange for more rustic ways of life. He is once again re-enlightened by God when he escapes confinement in Ireland and travels back to England. As he reacquaints himself with his religion, he decides to travel back to Ireland where he plans to convert the country to Christianity. But his endeavor is easier said than done for an obstinate British Cardinal (Malcolm McDowell) obstructs his path, making his efforts exceedingly difficult.moreless
